Best Friends LA Adoption Event
Best Friends Animal Society (base in Utah) hosts a super pet adoption event every year at the La Brea Tar pits. Kitten Rescue along with other organizations and city shelter participates. It is a very successful event where a lot of animals find a home. But unfortunately many will not, and the left over cats from all city shelters will be euthenised after this event. So at the end of the day, all private no kill organization will each take how ever many kitties they can handle to make sure not a single cat goes back to the shelter. This year Kitten Rescue took in 9 adult cats and I heard every cat was saved.
We had a section of the Sanctuary isolated from the general population set up and ready to take them in. After a long day, they arrived on one of our volunteer's car. We matched the paper work with the inpound numbers marked on the carrier boxes. One at a time, we opened the box and awwed at the kitty that popped his/her head out (like opening a Christmas gift). Each got their deworming, flea treatment and vaccination and weight. Once everything was done, they were put in their own enclosure. I don't think they knew that today was their lucky day. and that even though it looks just like the enclosure they were in at the shelters, they are no longer on death row and now have a brigher future ahead.
